It is difficult to address the history of our Land Search Committee without a mention of the efforts prior to the formation of New Hope. A dynamic analysis of the facility needs, functional interaction, and an understanding of the size we desire has resulted from the many groups that have researched these issues before we formed. There is a great base of knowledge that has allowed New Hope to step out on an educated search.
When New Hope formed, God provided for the facilities that we currently enjoy in a miraculous fashion. The timing, cost and overall fit of these facilities allowed us to begin with less pain than many of the potential alternatives. Our lease began in March of 2008 and runs for three years with provisions to extend if needed. With hard work, great sacrifice and commitment, this all worked with a seamless result.
Within a couple of months the discussions of a new campus was ever increasing and plans for a Search Committee began. By September of 2008 the group met for the first time. The group included some of the prior participants to share the knowledge from the earlier groups and some new faces adding fresh perspective.
Quickly we agreed on the size and location parameters and the search was on. Researching the Lee County Property Appraiser’s information we identified fewer than 20 parcels that could fit the need described. A letter was sent to each parcel owner requesting a proposal be extended to New Hope for acquisition of approximately 20 acres. The responses were reviewed, a second round of questions went out, and a short list of finalists remained. Each was invited to revise their offer and to compete for the final selection.
The Committee selected the site that we now are purchasing, yet the Seller’s price was $3,800,000. This was presented to the congregation and the pledge campaign followed. The pledges totaled $2,200,000, not the $3,800,000 that the Seller wanted. As has been the case throughout this journey, God’s timing is always perfect, but not always understood at the time. We agreed not to stop but to watch, wait and listen. Changes in the real estate market and competition from other Sellers all worked quietly in our favor.
In October of 2009 a contract was signed by New Hope and the Sellers at $2,400,000.
This included the timing and conditions needed to match our budget and abilities and will serve as the new home for God’s work through New Hope.
As the various committees work to deliver the purchase and future development of the campus, we all must remain diligent and mindful that God has the answers and chooses to utilize each of us in his timing for his purposes. Although we may not know how and when, these blessings continue at his pace.
