8:15am Worship Service

On Tuesday, November 28, our Session voted to resume a third worship service beginning Sunday, January 7, 2018. The plan is to offer an abbreviated service of worship from 8:15-9:00am. The service will follow the liturgy of the 9:30am service, but with limited choral anthems, special presentations or announcements. If you plan to attend the earlier service, please let me know what your thoughts are on an abbreviated service.

Recently, we surveyed the church family regarding a third worship service. To see the survey results, click here.

Surprisingly, at least to me, the survey indicated the most interest was in a contemporary Saturday night service. The Session discussed a Saturday night service. As I struggled with my own thoughts relating to a third service, I concluded the best option at this time was the resumption of our earlier service.

Below is the recommendation I submitted to the Session on November 28 for their discussion and decision. After much discussion, the elders voted to resume the earlier Sunday service beginning on Sunday, January 7, 2018.

Great Peace in the Lord,
Pastor Eddie

“My recommendation is to resume our earlier worship beginning January 7. My reasons are as follows:

  • Our present 9:30 congregation, especially with the anticipation of the arrival of our seasonal friends, merits the beginning of a third service.
  • In recent years, we have had 80 or more people who attend the 9:30 service but prefer an earlier service. The survey reveals this.
  • I suggest an abbreviated service 8:15-9:00 with limited choral music, special presentations or announcements may be a good option.
  • 8:00 requires the least amount of staff, as we have not provided preschool, children or youth ministry.
  • We are not presently prepared to begin a Saturday night service. Such a service has great potential for growth, but I do not think we are staffed to do this presently. As the survey indicated, there is strong interest in Saturday night worship from folks who presently attend the 11:00 worship. To offer a Saturday night service, we would minimally need to offer preschool and children ministry. In addition, we would need to recruit another worship leader or ask Kevin to take on another service. This would require recruitment of a small band to offer a contemporary worship service. We would also want to recruit a core of people to commit to this service as well as recruit greeters, ushers…”
